Our 6 Steps Process…

HomeOne Day Process

Epoxy Flooring Step by Step

Our company follows a 6-step process to epoxy floors to ensure the job is done proficiently, in a quick manner – never in haste. The team of pros arrives at the worksite on time – as scheduled, fully prepared to epoxy floors – always polite, courteous, ready to explain anything you want to know about the process.

Let us assure you that all pros respect the COVID-19 safety measures to the letter, keeping the required social distance and wearing masks.

The 6-step process of epoxy floors

  • Preparation

    Step 1: Floor Preparation

One of the most important steps, when epoxy flooring, is preparing the surface. There's often a lot of stains, dirt, hardened debris. Anything protruding and anything that could compromise the good looks of the final epoxy coating is removed. Having unloaded their service truck, the pros get to work. They use a diamond grinder, which is hooked up to a vacuum system for minimum dust. With such a specialized floor grinder, which has substituted the standard sanding, the concrete floor is well-prepared for the best adherence of epoxy. Once the pros prepare the floor, they sweep and clean the whole surface to remove excess dust.

  • Concrete repairs

    Step 2: Concrete Repair

Chances are high that the concrete is cracked at some points. The next step of the process is to fill these cracks – all holes, fix damage by using special fillers and menders. Be sure that even tiny cracks are filled properly for better finishing results. The pros make sure that all cracks and seams are filled and they grind – if they have to, to create a smooth substrate for the epoxy coating.

  • Basecoat

    Step 3: Basecoat Application

While the existing concrete floor is perfectly prepped for the epoxy application, priming is essential. At this stage, the pros prime the floor. They use epoxy base coat – hence, put another layer of coating on the substrate ensuring the excellent adherence of epoxy, its better looks, and its longer performance. Priming the floor is also a way to avoid bubbles and seal the substrate.

  • Appling the chip

    Step 4: Chip Application

If the customer has asked for a color flake epoxy floor, this is the time the pros distribute the chips on the floor. And they do that depending on whether the customer wants light, medium, or heavy coverage. Such epoxy paint chips give color to the floor, making it more inviting. They are little explosions of colors that texturize and customize the customer's floor. The process of distributing the chips is done while the basecoat is still wet and so, the pros work quickly, right after they apply the basecoat.

  • Scraping the excess chip

Step 5: Scraping to Remove Excess Chip

Once the basecoat is dry, the pros sweep off the excess flakes to create a fine, smooth surface where nothing protrudes. Although extremely experienced and thus, disperse the epoxy paint flakes evenly on the floor – no dense and light areas, some may be protruding. These ones may be scraped and vacuumed, leaving the floor properly cured.

  • Clear Coat

    Step 6: Epoxy Coating Application

The final step includes the application of epoxy coatings. If the pros have applied chips on the floor, they now use clear epoxy coating that will provide the required protection and reveal the beauty of the colored flakes. The clear top coat – also, UV protective, locks the flakes, while the final feeling of the floor depends on how thin or thick the layer of the clear epoxy coating is. With a thinner layer, there's some texture; with a thicker layer, there's enhanced protection and a smoother floor. Once this stage is over, the service is done. You are all set to enjoy your new epoxy floor!
